Darlene L. Witte, Ph.D.
The first step toward awareness beyond myself came in early childhood as I explored the stunning Alberta landscape where I was born. My earliest memories are of how my parents taught me to pay attention to nature and to listen. I gradually realized that attuning to nature could open a portal to continual growth in the everyday world as well as something beyond. This book is for people who love and want deeper connections to nature and seek practical information on why and how I learned to co-create with nature (herbal craft and natural healing). When I visited Findhorn in Moray, Scotland in 2019 I found a community of people who viewed the world in a similar way. This section of my webpage highlights practical information relating to inner listening, meditation, and the history of Findhorn.
Gifts and Graces from the Herb Garden
Nature provides us many resources that we have forgotten how to cultivate and use. Herbs, such as parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme are not difficult to grow or harvest for your own personal household use. In this section I share my own discoveries relating to ingredients and methods provided by herbs my own garden. You will find details on use and preparation in this section, how to create your own herbal teas, culinary herbal magic, soothing salves and massage oils, misting bottles, roll-on tonics and herbal oxymels.
In my poetry you can explore, and perhaps identify with me, my most authentic voice. (For now I am including only 2 of my poems that have been published as many are currently under review for publication and will be included at a later time as this section grows over the next months.
I was an educator for about 40 years, beginning as a classroom teacher in 1977. In the 1980’s I earned M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees and taught in college classrooms until my retirement in 2014. In this section you will find articles that were published in a variety of education publications. My focus was to develop within myself an intentional pedagogy built upon reflective practice. In this section you will find a collection of professional publications on topics of literacy, language development and the importance of childhood play.
My memoir is a synopsis of a soon to be published book, “Notes on Hunger.” For those who are interested in my life story, I cover it in this section. It includes the most important and significant events that have made me who I am today. If you are interested in knowing more about me or you are interested getting sense of the book before you purchase it I am sure you find this section of immense interest to you.
